Government Policy Update — May 2026
Electric Car FBT Discount: Extended, Then Phased Out
The Australian Government has confirmed the EV FBT exemption will continue — but it's being wound back in three phases. Existing leases are fully grandfathered, meaning if you start now, you lock in the full benefit regardless of future changes.

EV Home Charging Rate Increased
The ATO has raised the simplified home charging rate for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from 4.2c/km to 5.47c/km, starting the FBT year 1 April 2026. This odometer-based rate replaces the need to track electricity bills, making EV running cost claims simpler and more valuable.
